Wow, this last week went by so fast. swooooosh and it was gone. It's time for Author Wednesdays again, and Beth Williamson is here!!!!

Welcome to For Whom The Books Toll, Beth and I see you've brought someone for the interview.

Interview with Josephine Chastain Malloy from THE PROSPECT

Today we have with us Josephine Chastain from the Wyoming Territory. Josephine recently married Declan Calla—or rather Declan Malloy after a rambunctious journey through the wilds. A governess by trade, she is now settling in to her new home with her new husband.
Q. Josephine, thank you for being here with us. Please tell us a little about yourself.
A. I was born in France but grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I worked as a governess for four years before my family emigrated west. My parents had a land claim in the Oregon Territory and my three sisters and I traveled with them.
Q. Something happened along the way though, didn’t it?
A. More than one thing happened. My sister Francesca met and married one of our guides, John Malloy, and left the wagon train to start her new life. Oh how I miss her! Then I become very sick with typhoid near Fort John. The wagon master refused to allow me to continue with the wagon train so I had to stay behind.
Q. Alone?
A. Er, no, not alone. Declan Callahan stayed behind to nurse me. He had already come in contact with me and both of us were quarantined.
Q. Your parents allowed this?
A. Maman and Papa knew there was no good choice, but they chose correctly. Getting to the Oregon Territory with Charlie and Isabelle was more important. I knew I would survive and follow them west.
Q. And then you were alone with Declan
A. Yes, well, that turned out a bit different than I expected. He was a bad man in my eyes, but what he did for me in that cabin went beyond the milk of human kindness. I would have died were it not for Declan. He became… everything. *sighs*
Q. How romantic! You were in quarantine, though, what happened?
A. The unscrupulous people at the fort were robbing Declan of every cent he had to keep us in that cabin with food and water. We had to escape in the dead of night and travel across the territory toward my sister, Frankie. It was a harrowing journey fraught with dangers I had only read about in books.
Q. Your books saved your life though, didn’t they?
A. I would like to think it was a combination of Declan’s skill, my knowledge and a bit of his Irish luck. I cannot imagine surviving that experience with anyone but him.
Q. If there was one thing you learned from this experience, what would you say that was?
A. *taps her chin with her forefinger* That is a difficult question to answer. There were so many things I learned, it is hard to qualify one as the most important. I can narrow it down though. I would have to say that no matter what odds are against you, if you believe in yourself, and in the one you love, anything is possible.

Thank you so much Josephine for visiting with us today. Good luck with your new marriage and your new life in the territory. I look forward to hearing more about your adventures.

Thank you both for stopping by today. That was a great interview.

Blurb:
The lie that saves her life could destroy their love.
Josephine Chastain never thought a case of typhoid would force her Oregon-bound family to leave her  behind in Fort John—in the care of the last man she trusts. Others in the wagon train may have accepted Declan Calhoun’s motives for kidnapping her sister Frankie, but not Jo.
When she wakes up from the three-week fever, though, she finds some things have changed. Declan is her husband. And their cabin is too small to contain the growing desire between them.
While Jo fights for her life, Declan finds himself falling for the bookish Chastain sister. A woman with spine of steel and a seemingly bottomless well of smarts. In other words, everything he can never be.
Yet now is not the time to confess the little white lie that has thus far kept her safe. Not when he must figure out how to escape a quarantine that’s turned into extortion. And resist Jo’s determination to seduce him before she learns the truth. Before the unforgiving wilderness between them and safety claims their lives.
